Very few things are worse than waking up with misplaced or lost files, especially if you need them urgently. Although Macs are less likely to fail, it is still a possibility, so it would be a good idea to play it safe and back up important data. Get Backup makes this task straightforward and fast. With its template-based backup functions, disk cloning and folder synchronization capabilities, you can make sure that your important files will stay safe in any situation.

The application places three main backup functions at your disposal. You can back up individual files and folders, clone the entire disk and synchronize folders. These operations can be prepared and executed on a compact user interface, on separate tabs. It is sufficient to select a data source or drag and drop data over the interface and click a button to start backing up, but you can also make various tweaks along the way.

When backing up miscellaneous data, you can target common locations, like iPhotos, Mail, iTunes and others, just by clicking and dragging their corresponding icons from a toolbar to a list. You can also bring up a properties panel, with options for encrypting the backups, excluding certain file types, scheduling automatic backups and more.

To clone a disk, you only need to select a source and a destination, in separate drop menus. Once you select a source disk, its contents will show up in a list, where you can exclude individual items if you need to. If you clone your disk along with the operating system, you will be able to boot from the clone. Furthermore, the application is capable of synchronizing the original disk with the clone automatically, according to a user-defined schedule.

The folder synchronization feature works just like the cloning utility. All you have to do is select two folders and click a button to make the destination identical to the source. Of course, you can set the application to analyze the folders first, if you wish to see what files will be copied. It is also possible to exclude file types and to schedule automatic synchronization tasks.

Pros

You can back up data, synchronize folders and clone disks. The application can be scheduled to perform these tasks automatically. Its controls are well organized and very easy to understand.

Cons

Certain features are reserved for the Pro version. While using Get Backup, you will always have spare copies of your important files, regardless of what happens to your Mac.
